REORGANISATION OF STATES AND UNION TERRITORIES
The Constituent Assembly appointed the SK Dhar commission in 1947 to study the issue of the organisation of the states on linguistic basis. Dhar commission categorically rejected the basis of linguistic formation of states. Then Indian National Congress appointed a three member committee in 1948 It is calleed JVP Committee (Jawarharlal Nehru, Vallabhai Patel, Pattabhi Sitaramaiyya) to consider the recommendation of the Dhar Commission. This committee also rejected the idea of linguistic formation of the state.
FAZL ALI COMMISSION:
Fazl Ali commission was constituted in December 1953 and its reported 1955. which was also known as states reorganisation Commission.By the states reorganisation Act 1956 and the 7th constitutional Amendment Act. As a result 14 states and 6 Union Territories were created on 1st November 1956.
